Flashing Red Airplane began as the solo project of Jen Wilke (chief singersongwriter), orignally hailing from the Ann Arbor area of Michigan (University of Michigan). She started recording songs at home in the upper reaches of the state with some good friends. Those recordings became the basis for the Matchpale Records (now defunct) release "My Life As a Frog". The record has been heard on radio stations both in the United States and in Europe and seems to strike a chord with careful listeners. It went as high as 167 on the national college charts, quite an achievement for a self produced and completley home recorded effort. Jen moved to Boston where she formed a version of the band with two of her friends, Dmitri and Dave. They created enough recordings for the new EP, "Flashing Red Airplane Loves You." Jen recently relocated back up north to hang out with old friend Mike (Bass, backing vocals) and new friends Ashley (Drums) and Shannon(Organ, guitar, waste disposal). They are now playing shows at home in Houghton and hope to do some new recording and tour around the country in the next few years. They have a website at www.flashingredairplane.com
