Dave was in a metal/rock band called Banned for a year or so during 1999 and early 2000. The band never really got anything done. I went to one of their practices, the whole time was just talking, the lead guitarist always had to have his volume perfect and got mad at Dave because it didn't sound good (which by the way, dave was the drummer, not a DJ or manager, or soundman or something). Anyway, the band sucked. Bluntly put. Dave had ideas of starting a punk/hardcore band with some of his friends. First to join the crew was bassist Brian. Who really sucked at bass (and he admitted it). They got together a few times and Dave would play guitar and Brian would play bass. They could play a few songs without drums that sounded decent, but they were nowhere close to a band. Matt and Nate both joined the band on the same day. Matt was a good bassist and Dave thought he would be perfect for the band. At the time Dave didn't know Nate at all really. He had just heard that Nate played guitar. ASD was formed. All of the band members started writing lyrics and soon enough they had a few good songs (lyrics only). I don't know who started the idea of becoming slightly ska, but trumpet player Tim was picked up along the way. Tim had been playing trumpet for a while, so everyone had hopes he was good. There first band practice was a week away. It was on a Saturday in early Feb. 2000 in Dave's garage. I couldn't wait to finially see them play. When I got there all 5 band members were there and Lauren was there as well. They were working out Knowledge by Operation Ivy and it sounded close to the original. After a few hours of playing we got bitched at from the neighbors, so they had to stop. Half an hour later they played Knowledge again just to piss of the neighbor. Knowledge, My Sharona, Louie Louie, and With or Without You were some of the songs they covered. They didn't have any original songs, but it was still just the first band practice. I went to one of their practices two weeks later and they already had three songs! Four weeks after the first band practice they were up to 6 original songs! I remember at one of their band practice at Brian's house we got our first call. What I mean by that is the first time a neighbor called the police on us. A cop showed up and was pretty nice, he told them they should hang carpet from the ceiling to block the sound some more. Oh yeah, I forgot to say, they decieded on a name, ASD, Acute Sense of Disorder (which Brian thought of).
