“Passion. It's in the vocals, it's in the BGV's, it's in the guitars, drums and everything; shoot you almost wanna cry it's just all...there,” Says HM Magazine in a review of one of Adelynne Drive’s most recent EPs. If there’s one word that explains what Adelynne Drive is about, it’s passion. More specifically, it’s passion for music and the power that music holds. Adelynne Drive formed in the summer of 1997 under the name “Common Wealth” and immediately began writing songs with no specific goal in mind. They began to realize that they really had something and others started to take notice as well. Some of the first were Nathan McCorkel of Johnny Q. Public and Brian Spirito. With a band manager and personal manager at their side only after 6 months of being together, they began to stir up label interest in the independent scene from labels such as Decoy Records, Absolute Music, and Rugged Records. It was also at this time that they changed their name to what much of the industry knows as Featherweight. Then something happened that changed their career forever when they met Rick May of DC Talk/Jennifer Knapp. Besides being an amazing musician, Rick was also a talented producer and decided to take the band under his wing. Since, they have recorded 3 albums with Rick and learned much about music each time. For the next 4 years they played out every weekend anywhere from 2 to 4 times a week while promoting and selling themselves. In this time they had the privilege of sharing the stage with bands such as Rod, Skillet, The Elms, Luna Halo, Reliant K, Ace Troubleshooter, Dead Poetic, Spark, The Unforsaken, Sanctus Real, and the list goes on. They also had the privilege of developing great friendships with many of these bands. Thanks to the help of Rick May and the band’s management they were able to play such venues as The Hard Rock Café in Nashville Tennessee, Cornerstone Fest, Sunshine Fest and become a regular at Ohio’s premier club, The Gathering Grounds. Their biggest break came at their show in the summer of 2002 at Atlanta Fest in Six Flags theme park where they won second place in the Atlanta Fest talent search. It was at this event that they met Daniel Meeker of Nashville based Curo Management. Daniel was excited about the band’s talent and vision and offered them a management contract. After much consideration they decided to join up with Daniel. So much happened during the time following, it’s almost a blur. Thanks to the efforts of Daniel Meeker and his son Isaac, the already growing buzz in Nashville began to multiply by leaps and bounds. The band was offered several recording contracts and got letters and calls of interest from Forefront Records, Word Records, Sparrow Records, Gotee Records, Tooth and Nail Records, and many others. It looked like the sky was the limit for these guys when their momentum came to a screeching halt when the unfortunate event of 9/11 occurred. This event changed many things. The music industry and the band’s career were two things that it changed. Daniel Meeker quit the music business all together and several of the members of Adelynne Drive/Featherweight began reevaluating their lives. After a lot of thought and time, guitarist, Mike Traylor and manager, Brian Spirito decided to leave the band. After a long time of laying low they picked up Erich Nussbaum who became the new bassist and moved Chad Curtis (former bassist) to lead guitar. They wrote all new songs and began creating a new and improved image of themselves. In light of these changes they decided a name change was also in order. And so it was that Featherweight became Adelynne Drive. With a new album, a new image, and a new passion and appreciation for the time and gifts God has given them, Adelynne Drive is ready to go.
