"So sometime roundabout 1990, a buddy of mine had a show on our local college radio station, and we'd go up there and play pretty much anything - at some point we were informed that the station was going to switch over to 'commercial alt rock,' and then they started throwing lots of their more esoteric old records away. We took it upon ourselves to liberate a sizable chunk of their exotica, before it could be chucked into a nearby dumpster. So we get this Amon Duul record back to his apartment, put it on...sounds impressively Wagnerian. And then that gargle-throated singer started up - this remains the most unexpected instance of me dying laughing while listening to a piece of music. Great stuff, very cool, pompous as all get out, but truly in a class of it's own. It would have been a tragedy for this to end up at the bottom of a nondescript Blue Ridge landfill"
