  • November Music News

I hope you're well and adjusting to nightlight time. November is upon us and I'm heading out in a few hours to go play at the FAR-West (that's Folk Alliance Region West) conference. It's my first time down to Irvine for this meeting and I'm very excited to check it out. I have 5 showcases (little performances) and lots to learn, I'm sure!

I also just placed an order for some fine American Apparel t-shirts...I'm going to stencil print by hand some designs and hopefully have some available on my site soon. For those of you in LA...the first 30 people to my 11/20 show (details below) will get a free t-shirt hand printed by yours truly, provided I can figure out how to do it...shouldn't be too hard, right?

In non-music related news, but significant life news, I just returned from an amazing meditation course run solely by volunteers and by donation. If you've ever thought about doing this kind of thing, check out www.dhamma.org. No dogma, no frills, just 10 days of transformational meditation. They have centers all over the world.

Back to the music...if you live in the Bay Area, or especially LA (the folks at Genghis Cohen where I'm playing made special arrangements for me that night so I'd really love for it to be a great show!) I hope to see you soon. Also, I just booked a Madison show at the High Noon for 12/23, early at 6PM. Yay! I love the High Noon.

  • Springtime music & shows

    Hi there,

I hope this finds you well and enjoying some Springtime weather.

As I may have mentioned, the new album is out and the first batch of reviews was really nice. The San Francisco Bay Guardian did a piece on their blog, Noise, ("Her voice is an alluringly warm, friendly instrument - sweet without becoming cloying, tender and heartfelt and rich from just a hint of a soft husky purr...") and I got little shout outs from The Onion (in Madison and San Francisco) and the East Bay Express, The San Francisco Examiner, as well as some other great papers and mags. They're all at www.annalaube.com under "Press Reviews."

But the "unofficial" reviewers (that means you!) are just as important. Now that many of you have had a chance to listen to your copy of the new album for a little while, it would help me out immensely if you would be willing to go over to iTunes, CD Baby, or Amazon (or your favorite online music site) and post your own review of the album.

In other news, my buddy and filmmaker, Pete Lang, is just finishing up editing my first official music video for my new single, "Hippie Boyfriend." I'll be sure to let you know when it's up. But in the meantime, check out my new Youtube channel for a video from our Iowa Public Radio performance in January and a fun video for my new song "Om Namah Shivaya (Ulysses) that I did with cello player extraordinaire, Rebbeca Roudman.

I also just joined Twitter (www.twitter.com/annalaube), seemingly along with the rest of the country, and I've also on Pandora for awhile, did you know? Come say hello.

  • The Times They Are A-Changin'

    Greetings~

I hope you're well and weathering the craziness/excitement/fear/wonderment and hope of the world right now.

Below I've highlighted some amazing music that is occurring right now...it seems like most all of my favorite artists are doing exciting things and I wanted to pass along the good vibrations. There is nothing (much) more thrilling to me than finding new music that hits deep, and I hope that maybe you'll find something below that makes you smile.

    ---

Bob Dylan's new album Tell Tale Signs

Check it out -- the 8th in the Bootleg series is available to stream for free right now on NPR.com. I have no idea how long this will be posted, but it's up and it's awesome.

    ---

Jolie Holland live at home in Brooklyn

This is an intimate video of folk songstress Jolie Holland singing "Mexico City" from her new album, The Living and the Dead.

Speaking of which, her friend and all around amazing songwriter, Sean Hayes, is finishing up a tour with the Cold War Kids in Colorado and California. He has a free mp3 of a great song "No, No Guantanamo" available for download on Myspace. One of the most inspirational cats on the scene right now.

    ---

    Lucinda Williams Listening Party

Right now you can listen to 5 new tracks from Lucinda's upcoming CD, Little Honey, which hasn't even been released yet. Holy moly. Including a song called "Honey Bee." I also just found out this summer that Tom Petty has a song called "Honeybee," from my current favorite album, Wildflowers. How I've overlooked this album for 14 years is beyond me, but what's important is that it finally found me. A good soundtrack to accompany the exploration of the City of Angels.

    Godspeed and happy trails,

    *Anna

  • March Music

    People of the World,

Happy Spring! It may not feel like Spring on your cloud, but I'm on a
quick stopover in lovely San Francisco where in my opinion, Spring
springs early each year in February with roses and sunshine and great blues skies. So if it's not reached you yet, hold on tight! I take off
tonight for the Midwest, so I'll probably be eating my words in less
than 24 hours. In the meantime, I'm going to make this quick so I can
get out and enjoy the sun.

Three shows for the third month of the year. Not really March Madness,
    but a little March Music~

Also of note: I have a new website at www.annalaube.com.
And: I will be in Austin attending SXSW (but not performing) so give a
holler if you know of any great shows not to be missed. I'm really
looking forward to hearing Justin Townes Earle among others!

Take care and here's to inner and outer peace~
