Anna Laube's pan-genre (folk/country/blues/Americana) pop cross over is, in the words of one her critics, "Acoustic, atmospheric, wide open, and western. Dirt covered highways and the setting sun." It's simple and relaxed, derived as much from the American folk-troubadour tradition as it is from newcomers like Ani Difranco and Cat Power. Her music is not so much influenced by the work of artists like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell as it is infused by it. Born in Iowa City, IA, a place replete with amazing roots musicians, Anna began taking piano lessons at age 3, and later studied some boogie woogie licks with David Zollo (Greg Brown, Bo Ramsey, Todd Snider). She took up saxophone, oboe and violin in secondary school, and after moving to Madison, WI, picked up the guitar at 14 after hearing a rendition of The Indigo Girl's "Ghost." Like a rolling stone...Anna continued to develop as a songwriter while traveling the world, ending up in California. Her debut album "Outta My Head" is self-produced, partially recorded in her living room and partially in an analog studio in San Francisco with Jason Quever of The Papercuts and Birger Olsen, and in Madison with bass player Nick Moran. Engineered, mixed and mastered by Mark Whitcomb, the album has received both national and international airplay. Centered around her unique voice, which has been described as "ethereal, deep and sultry," "Outta My Head" has also paved the way for Anna to step into the national scene, earning her new fans at every stop. Currently available on Itunes, Cdbaby or directly from her record label Gingko Records at Google Checkout, "Outta My Head" is a great introduction to Anna Laube, a name that is quickly becoming synonymous with both artistic integrity and commercial success.
