Antigone Rising
The New York based all-female quintet are proud to announce their upcoming CD, "Tales From Wonderland", will be out in early 2008. The album was recorded with veteran rock producer, Jay Joyce (Patty Griffin, Flaming Red), in his Nahsville, TN home studio. The band is partnering directly with Starbucks Hear Music Label for this upcoming release.
The band's 2005 major label debut, From the Ground Up, kicked off Starbucks porprietary CD series "Hear Music Debut", and its first week sales broke into the Billboard Top 100 Comprehensive Chart at 92.
The band's decison to partner directly with Starbucks/Hear Music was born out of a need to re-take control over the business they started together back in 1999 when lead singer Cassidy joined the fold. The band toured extensively as an indie act releasing several CDs and playing upwards of 260 shows a year until signing a deal in 2003 with Jason Flom, then President of Lava Records. With the departure of Jason Flom from Warner Music Group in 2005, the band knew remaining with their major label would be an uphill battle. Fortunately an amicable split followed in late 2006 and Antigone Rising was able to forge a second distribution deal for their upcoming album with Starbucks/Hear Music.
Antigone Rising was founded in the late 90s by sibling guitarists Cathy and Kristen Henderson. The band also features powerhouse vocalist Cassidy, Dena Tauriello on drums and Jen Zielenbach on bass. The five-piece ensemble's blend of 70s-era rock n roll has taken them from playing small clubs up and down the eastern seaboard, to opening up for The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers Band, Aerosmith, Rob Thomas and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.
