    I think 'The Book of the Hanging Garden' is one of Schoenberg's most fascinating pieces - it is at this precise moment that he passes the point of no return.

    Schoenberg's melodies are so beautiful but he uses them just once and then throws them away, so unless you are really fast, you don't even notice until you've heard the piece ten times. Except in his earliest works, like Opus 4, where he uses the melodies twice in a row. I think that's why Opus 4 is one of his most popular pieces.

    I'm only somewhat familiar with atonal music, but I respect it to the nth degree. Thank you Schoenberg for spearheading this very ambitious form of composing!

    Arnold Schoenberg serialist composer agreed with his family that he was difficult to live with, but at least he invented SO SO SO many tools for the composition of Moses & Aron!
