Arte Bratton (vocals, guitars) and Jeff Lyman (vocals, drums) played in their first band together when they were 11 years old. Arte moved out of town the following year. The two ran into each other 8 years later in college and joined a cover band founded by Kenny Owens (vocals, guitar) along with Mike Lewis (bass, vocals). The band began to get more requests for the original material than the cover songs, so in the winter of 1997, they decided to drop the covers and form what is now Artgeko.
