  • I love Summa (any version - voice, strings) and Fratres. Also think Cantus is amazing. Great composer and a natural heir to all the Eastern European composers of the 19th and early 20th century. Very clean - if not glittering - lines, intense but instantly accessible.
  • I had the "Cantus" played live on my father's funeral. Unlike anything I ever witnessed.
  • Oscar G
Well, I can say that my concept of music has radically changed since I first heard Fratres. My favorite compositions of his are Lamentate and Da Pacem Domine, so guess what my favorite album is... Can anyone tell me if there is a way of getting RSS or news about new releases from this guy? Amazon has just too big of a catalog. Thanks!!!
  • Everyone should check out "Modern Minimalists" on Youtube with Bjork. She does an interview with Arvo Part
  • Te Deum is my favourite - magnificent piece [specially the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir/Tallinn Chamber Orchestra/Tönu Kaljuste version]
  • Brinn M
If I could have a simultaneous life, I would be a student, and/or a musician, singing, or playing his music. The first time I heard his music, I had tears in my eyes... it almost made my knees weak with such heavenly beauty.
  • Symphony No. 3 and Fur Alina are my favorite pieces of his.
  • I put the CD "Fur Alina" on a continuous loop in our post-partum room the first two days of my son's life outside the womb. It was a perfect expression of that miraculous time, so full of love and stillness.
