BARNA SOUNDMACHINE @URBAN LANDSCAPES RADIOSHOW9. 41 [30.11.2006] / USA
Got a three-hour special for you, with two guestmixes to get you inna funk vibe. The first comes from Florian Keller. Some of you know that he’s one of the most obsessive collector of rare funk 45’s on earth; others of you know him from his radio shows and club events known as Into Somethin’ (which is no more) and Party-Keller (on radio via Samurai FM and in Germany as a monthly club event); still others know him to be one of my all-time favorite DJ’s. He’s also released compilations during the last few years, and during the summer came the latest in the Party-Keller compilation series put out by Compost Records. He’s put together a tightly-woven mix that should have you groovin’ along. The other mix comes from those crazy Spainairds known as the Barna Soundmachine. With their own label called Blind Test, the outfit has released three EP’s of mash-up/re-edit versions of classic funk tunes that can stir danger on the dancefloor. Once again, BSM comes through with another winning mix.Enjoy the extra music…and thanks for listening!
RRAURL , Barna Soundmachine reedita old school [January 2007] / by Benjamin Ferreira Jr. / BRAZIL
Blindtest, onde reedita clássicos do soul/funk/disco/jazz. Foram refeitos, por exemplo, a rara versão de "I Thought It Was You" (1979), de Herbie Hancock, com Kimiko Kasai nos vocais, "Every Little Thing" (1995), de Chaka Khan, Sir Joe Quaterman & Free Soul
em "(I Got) So Much Trouble In My Mind" (1973), DeBarge com "I Like It" (1982), George Duke e sua "Reach Out" (1983), entre outros. Merece destaque o recém-lançado quarto volume, com o remix que pouco altera "You're The One", da adorável e saudosa Sharon Redd, e a inacreditável "Gonna Get You", baseada em generosos samples de "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" (1968), de Diana Ross & The Supremes + The Temptations.
GIANT STEP, The Global Rewind [November 28th, 2006] / Article by Velanche Stewart / USA
those bad bwoys the Barna Soundmachine are at it again with the third installment of its Funk In Your Face series of dope re-edits. “Gonna Get Ya” starts off with a very familiar sample, then mixes in some 70’s vocals from a longtime R&B diva for a rockin’ tune that kills it. Also some killers including a remix of Sharon Redd and an all too-short funk/boogie gem called “It Goes Like This.”Snatch it quick, cuz the pressing’s limited.
TRAX Magazine, Funk for Your Face #04, BT004 [January 2007] / by Fernando Fuentes / SPAIN
