Wilneida (18 20' 39" N, 66 45' 09" W), Laura (40° 45-- 43" N, 73° 27 --16" W), Gary (53° 30, -2° 15), and Ruben (40°43 N 74°00" W): four individuals from four very different places, each as distinct as their pasts.
Their youths, defined by the melodic sounds of sugar cane plants swaying back and forth in the hot winds; the pulsating, dreamy, and dark atmosphere of urban decay and the silence and boredom of suburbia that would drive a youth to scissor and scotch-tape her very first band together out of old cereal boxes and milk cartons, shape the unique and sincere music Bella Noir creates.
Expressing what was in their heads took a few months of isolation in rehearsal rooms in Brooklyn and the lower east side. Surrounded by punk, wannabe hipsters and tired rock and roll, Bella Noir created music the hard way, without using their influences in any obvious way.
Finding their stride was a revelation that onlookers at recent shows have remarked upon. Combining experimental arrangements with an electonica aftertouch, pushing visual boundaries and delivering their mixed personal experiences is both abrasive and understated. The diversity of new york is their obvious spiritual home.
They have been taking their show around NYC, playing notable venues such as the Knitting Factory Main Stage, Crash Mansion and the Delancey. If you listen closely you can hear the ringmaster’s shouts, the echoing chants, laser beams and burning fuel.
