From the May/June 2003 Issue of Performing Songwriter magazine:
Ben Eyler soaked up the early R&B sounds of his native Philadelphia, and he makes it known on his full-length debut.
The New York-based artist has the hearty, rich voice of a soul singer twice his age, and his melodies call to mind purveyors such as Al Green and Jimi Hendrix, and contemporaries such as Paul Weller and Sonia Dada.
"Let Me Stay Curious" deviates from the norm with subtle Latin grooves, and the heart wrenching "Worthy of Suspicion" incorporates passionate, bluesy riffs. On the 11-song disc, Eyler pays homage to the City of Brotherly Love through excellent lyrics and guitar playing, and compositions steeped in honest, classic soul…blue-eyed or not.
