Between The Lines – “Out Of Nowhere” This Danish fusion band truly comes out of nowhere with a great take on original jazz fusion and is a real breath of fresh air in today’s music scene. All of the compositions on the their beautiful album debut are of very high standard and everything written by the band itself with reminders of Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker and Mike Stern - last of which who has agreed to play on BTL’s next album alongside Randy Brecker. Enough said! This critically acclaimed album shows once and for all that jazz is not dead – on the contrary. Between The Lines blend and mix all kind of genres like bebop, funk, rock, blues – yes even pop at times. It is also this great diversity in the musical palette that is the force of the band. The dynamic span is great and though the jazzy solos and chord structures is clearly present on Out Of Nowhere a very fundamental part of their music is based on funky grooves and rock’n’roll energy. Out Of Nowhere offers an emotional tour from the melancholic Leaving You to the energetic outbursts of the title track and even hits a somewhat happy mode with the bluesy Gotcha. This is a remarkable album from a remarkable band – and Out Of Nowhere is a definite must have for all jazz and groove enthusiasts out there. “Between The Lines play their asses off!” – Mike Stern
