Who is Billy Harvey? Uber-talented Singer/Songwriter Guitarist Producer From Austin, Texas. Perhaps you've heard of him before? He's worked with Bob Schneider, Steve Poltz, Blu Sanders, Ginger Mackenzie, Trish Murphey, Kacy Crowley and many more! "I could have been a fundamentalist activist... but you know what? I love my job!" Billy Harvey was born in Evanston, Illinois. His father passed away when he was eight, so his family moved around a lot. In fact, thirteen times in a six year span! At the age of nine, his mother bought him his first guitar. Bob Dylan's Blowin' In the Wind and Kiss's Detroit Rock City were the first two songs he learned to play. Living in various cities like Santa Fe, Boston and Seattle, The Harvey’s eventually anchored in Chicago where Billy attended high school. At seventeen, he packed up his VW van and made his way to San Francisco, California. There he was able to establish himself in a city that's known for its many great artists. In February of 1986, he joined the bay-area band Flame and began playing (guitar) and co-writing songs. Very popular in their area, Flame scored a record deal with Giant/Warner in August of 1991 and released their debut album in 1992. After six years, the band broke up and brought Billy to Austin, Texas. In 1996, Billy decided to try the solo thing by releasing an album - Moonlight Theatre - on an independent label. The CD got him a lot of local attention and even made a few newspapers’ "best of" lists. He continued mastering his craft by writing, producing, sessioning and performing with other Austin artists/bands. Late 2001 in a gig that was suppose to be only a "one tour" type deal, Billy ended up taking Stephen Bruton's place in Bob Schneider's band (Lonelyland). Now he's an essential part -and a very popular member- of the band!!! They perform weekly (unless on tour) at Antone's and Saxon's Pub. Billy is giving the solo singer/songwriter bit another go. He currently has three self-indie releases - an EP (More Happy Than Sad), a full-length album (Toast) and the brandy spanking new full length, “Pie” which was released in September 2004. When he's not on the road, he's performing his material at the tiny Flipnotics coffee house about once a month. Word on the street is several different record reps have reportedly attended his shows with great interest! Now it's only a matter of time before the man is signed. So check him out now while he's still under the radar. Keep his name in mind, because soon you'll be hearing great things about this man and his music!!!
