  Hardcore is a division of punk. Harcore was created because a lot of "punk" bands in the 70's started to become to "glam", and new wave. The purpose of hardcore was to take punk back to it's more serious, stripped down roots, without all the glitz, the rock star attitudes....hense Hardcore Punk. Hardcore is a part of punk, and to me punk in it's truest form.

  What are you guys talking about? - Hardcore IZ Punk. Ripped clothes, wierd hair, Slam Dancin & Safety Pins Hardcore became metal, and Punk all sounds like Agent Orange now --- but when I was a young lad back in '81 we listened to Black Flag - Bad Brains - Minor Threat alongside Devo - Talking Heads - Residents .....there was no difference back then really.

  Is there a seperate Black Flag page for the pre-Henry Rollins Black Flag? Or is everything included here? And, by the way, I hate when music has to be labeled. But, it is the way it is. Hardcore is just a derivative of punk which is a derivative of rock and roll. It's all rock and roll to me. When you start classifying everything, and becoming militant about the whole thing, you aren't doing the world, or yourself, any good. If I remember correctly, it was just the media's name for the music scene in New York City during the late 1970's. Then England turned it into some youth movement, which was the genesis of all this bullshit. It's just music folks! The rest of the garbage is nothing but fashion and attitude.

  Er, Black Flag was a punk band. They started in 77, best to class them as Hardcore Punk. Who cares anyway, it is just a phukkin label anyway. Discharge were a UK hardcore band, but somebody classifying Discharge as punk is just as legit.
