Bruce Haack - A lonely only-child who barely saw the shadows of the Depression and World War II scrape across his sleepy mining town in Alberta, Canada. He would grow up to become a father of electronic music and gifted composer/songwriter who could scribble Carnegie Hall onto a laundry list of life achievements right next to Julliard dropout. Haack's musical career careened through the 1950s--he wrote radio ditties for the Dot and Coral record labels on one day, experimented with enough tape loops, violins, sopranos, and electronics to transform a Belgian ballet commission into a treatise on mechanical music on the next. Bruce went on to be one of the most musically and lyrically inventive children's songwriters of the '60s and '70s. Despite — or perhaps because of— his intended audience, his music was unusually expressive, combining homemade analog synths; classical, country, pop, and rock elements; and surreal, idealistic lyrics. In addition to composing, Bruce also invented what he called the 'Peopleodian', a devise used to play music by touching people, which he demonstrated on 'The Tonight Show w/ Johnny Carson' and 'Mister Roger's Neighborhood'. In 1969 Bruce was discovered by Raymond Scott, whom choose none other than Bruce to operate his invention of the 'Electronium', which is hailed today as one of the most important inventions in electronic music. In the 1970s and 1980s, Haack expanded into darker areas, with albums like Haackula and Columbia Records' Electric Lucifer. He was an unparalleled innovator who constructed synthesizers and soundtracks befitting the zenith of the space-age. Bruce was also an unbridled creative force in need of just enough bearing to keep from self-destructing. Haack's recordings of this time have had a undoubtedly subliminal effect on pop music as we know it.
