Pennsylvania is a very massive state with phenomenal cities such as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Many artists have had very successful music careers from these cities, but it's not everyday that you see someone with as much drive and potential as this young man from York, Pa. Not from a city nearly as big as Pa.'s major cities, but with enough talent to give those big city names a run for their money. York has not had many big names come from it, but all that is about to change with the arrival on the music scene of Chantz Kacey. The confident, laid back 23-year-old, also known by family and friends as Courtney Lamar Kinard has been singing ever since he was a little boy. Receiving his stage name while in college, taking his name converting it into Chantz Kacey, isn'tt as hard as expected to figure out. In his sophomore year of college during an open mic night, he unexpectedly took a "chance" and performed a song for the audience which they loved immediately. Chantz came to be; He figured that he really wanted to separate himself any confusion from anyone else or campus with the same name so "Kacey", which are his initials "CK", spelled out backwards became his last name which brought to life "Chantz Kacey". The oldest of four children, all boys, the singer/song writer was born into a family that was thriving with musical talent. Growing up in the church, Chantz had no choice but to sing, and loved doing it! His mother being the assistant pastor gave him the responsibility to lead the adult and the youth choir's on Sunday mornings. Not only vocally inclined, he is also self-taught on the drums, and dabbles occasionally in the piano, and, trumpet. This start enabled Chantz while in high school, to be a part of numerous school musical groups and events while going on to graduating from William Penn. Afterwards Chantz attended Lincoln University, located just outside of Philadelphia Pa., this is where his music career interest truly came to life. He had always had a love and strong passion for music. He became serious about a career, when experimenting with recording software in college. Following in the footsteps of some of his musical inspirations such as Tank, Boys II Men, and Kim Burell to name a few, it started off as a hobby to record in his dorm room, but as time went by, Chantzs music was spreading through his stunning campus talent show performances and mix Cd's, and with his demo CD finally put together in the closet of his cousins home studio, he eventually began receiving attention from industry associates, which made it no longer just a hobby. Since then, Chantz has been gaining more and more momentum in his musical career and has been practicing non-stop at perfecting his craft to the best of the ability that god has given him. He's had a phenomenal, standout performance on "Showtime at the Apollo," Has recorded on over 5,000 mix-tapes and independent CDs sold, and has performed in countless shows and events. Chantz Kacey is a very unique artist, who's creativity knows no bounds. He love's to look at things as he would say "outside the box", and it shows in his story telling ability in his music. With talent like this hiding in little old York City, Pennsylvania all along, it isn't hard to believe that sometimes great things do come from small packages, and we can expect nothing but greatness from this very talented and versatile young man.
