Charlie Oxford grew up in Dallas, Texas was first inspired to pick up the guitar at the age of 12 from listening to the music of local Texan legends like Buddy Holly and Stevie Ray Vaughan, as well as the anthems of the 90’s from musicians like Dave Matthews and Ben Harper. Through his high school years, Charlie forged a unique guitar playing style that reflected the character of his early influences. Playing for friends and fans at parties and backyard gatherings, Charlie developed a sociable stage presence as well as a solid grassroots following in his hometown.
After moving to New Orleans to pursue an education in music business, Charlie’s folk-pop songwriting was infused with the sounds of New Orleans and the local talent beside him. Eventually, his Texas singer-songwriter style united with the posture of classic New Orleans and the attitude of progressive pop. Rich electric blues giving way to pop-driven acoustic hooks create a music style that is both unique and truly exceptional.
During the fall of Hurricane Katrina Charlie made a quick stop in Austin, Texas for a term and then headed off to Edinburgh, Scotland where he hooked up with David Murray at Fredag Music Group playing small gigs to Scottish crowds. Charlie returned to New Orleans for a year to finish school and can be found now back in Edinburgh continuing where he left off. Charlie’s debut album Conscious From Center is scheduled for release this autumn.
