Christy Nockels was born in Ft. Worth, TX, a seminary baby. She grew up in Oklahoma as the daughter of a pastor and a piano teacher which infused her heart early with a love for both music and God’s word. Christy now makes her home in Atlanta, GA with her husband Nathan and their 3 children. She met Nathan in 1993 at the Christian Artists Seminar in Estes Park, CO. It was love at first sight! They married two years later and began serving as worship leaders in their local church in Oklahoma City while Nathan finished college at OBU and Christy taught preschool. It was during these early years that many songs & dreams were born in their little one bedroom apartment. Soon after Nathan’s graduation, they were invited to move to Texas where they led worship at Metro Bible Study, a weekly gathering of 3000 young adults at Houston’s First Baptist Church. It was there that they were “discovered” by Rocketown Records, a small label in Franklin, TN owned by Michael W. Smith. Eventually they signed a recording contract and moved to Franklin in 1998. Around this time they also became involved with the Passion Conferences, a nationwide movement of college students dedicated to the fame and renown of Jesus Christ. Together as Watermark, Nathan and Christy recorded five albums with Rocketown Records. They have composed a journey full of songs, 7 of which were 1 radio singles. They have been nominated for numerous Dove Awards, including Christy’s nominations for Female Vocalist of the Year in 2005 & 2007, and their record “A Grateful People” was up for Worship Album & Special Event Album of the year in 2007. Nathan and Christy have partnered with many artists such as Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall and Tim Hughes on various projects and the worship recordings of the Passion Conferences. With the release of their fifth record “A Grateful People” in the Spring of 2006, Nathan and Christy laid down their Watermark journey to pursue other areas of ministry. Christy is taking more time to be one on one with their children, but still continuing to write, create, lead worship, mentor and minister. Christy and Nathan are currently “artists in residence” at their home church in Franklin, leading 14 Sundays a year. Christy is writing for a new record to release in early 2009, and continuing to sing and speak at various conferences and events across the nation. Christy’s heart is to encourage young women through worship and teaching, and also to encourage women of all ages to pursue mentorship relationships. Drawing from her own life experiences, through word and song, is what she loves to do most. With a heart to see young women open up their lives fully to God, Christy desires to leave a legacy and to proclaim the name of Jesus over this generation.
I'm SOOOOO glad that you are back! I saw you in concert with Point of Grace almost 10 years ago, and then the last concert you had in Chicago. When I saw you had a new CD I got so excited. It's so hard to find great music that doesn't sound just like everyone else :)

What a great surpise to see you in Indianapolis with Israel Houghton and Christ Tomlin. We drove there from Chicago after finding tickets here sold out. We attended Watermark's final concert at Moody and my husband recognized you AS SOON as you walked out. (You'd know how amazing this was if you knew him...). Anyhoo, thanks for the gift of your song that night. Rich blessings! Nichole (CoCoa)
