This project started out in the year of 2002 by the month of March, when two friends, Sérgio (vocal) and Chikko (guitar) decided to start this musical odyssey. They started out like any other band, by laying down some guitar chords and some improvised vocals, or at least try to, and later on record them and work on them. A few months later, Quim was invited to join the project as the band’s drums man and, of course, every rock band needs a bass, so, Gnomo (Gonçalo) appeared on scene in this project. After that day, we finally called ourselves a band. For a few months, songs were engineered and established a group of brothers that made their magic moments out of music. The band recorded their first promo cd at the G-Spot studio between 10 and 17 of October - 2003 with 3 songs. A few months after the recording of promo cd Gnomo left, and We started by trying other bass players, took some time to find the rigth person to replace him, until We tried Pedro Martinho, also Known as The Sheriff, this is the newest Civic member. How to define the genre of civic, well, that’s a though one… basically, the songs simply come out according to the moment and the mood. The sound of Civic can be intituled simply by rock, but it also travels in the nu-metal sounds, flying by the waves of funk and it has a few magical moments of music that can make any entity float in time and space. In the end, Civic is a combination and a converge of ideas that, so far, seem to fit perfectly like a puzzle. Some of the influences that determined the sonority of the band was bands like Incubus, Faith no More, Mr. Bungle, Queens of the Stone age and a few others… This band comes in a time of weirdness in this planet, where there are wars going on, weather is changing constantly, economy is down and the rich people get richer and the poor get even poorer. It is a time when humanity seems to forget the principles of living in society and loving the next, the principles of civism. The name Civic urged from a conversation between Sérgio and Gnomo, when they were confronting all problems that society creates and the amazing lack of civism that strikes the world in which one should be united in building a better one for the generations to come, but instead of that, the only care with money making and being better than the others.
