Craig Lyons

Craig Lyons is a distinct and passionate singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. Having released three self-recorded, self-produced solo albums during a period of artistic solitude on the shores of his native lake Erie, Craig and his unique sound have exploded into LA's independent music scene which eagerly awaits the release of his fourth album, 'On Reflection', available late June of this year. A quiet small-town guy bringing much-needed heart back to a cynical music landscape, his identifiable sound has drawn some of the city's finest and most interesting players as his 4-piece backing band. Craig's electric live rock show also has moments of intimate acoustic sublimity and is rapidly acquiring a loyal following while captivating first-time listeners alike. They can be heard performing weekly all over the city's most distinguished venues including The Viper Room, Key Club, The Mint, Molly Malones and the House of Blues. Quickly recognizing the talent of this new artist, Craig’s music has been licensed by Universal Music, Fox and MTV, and heard on shows such as 'So You Think You Can Dance' and 'The Real World'. Craig has been nominated for the LA Music Awards 2 consecutive years, receiving a producer's choice award in 2008. He also swept 2008's Star Music Awards, taking home top honors 'Artist of the Year' and 'Singer/Songwriter of the Year'. Craig has appeared in Music Connection Magazine and can be heard on commercial radio (ClearChannel music feature), independent radio (including WOXY), and college radio (including 92WICB, MTV-U best college radio station 2008). Coupled with his remarkable talent, Craig is a fervently altruistic and socially-conscious artist. A social activist and volunteer, Craig is featured on the ambitious charity 'Feed333' album, has organized his own benefit performances for Shriner's Hospital pediatric burn victims, volunteers as a mentor for musically gifted special-needs children, and is committed to personal and professional environmental responsibility. We are excited to introduce what will be Craig's first collaborative effort with the release of 'On Reflection'. A killer team of creative professionals has assembled based on their belief in Craig's vision, featuring his dedicated band of professional players, a live Hollywood string orchestra, grammy-winning mixer Rob Hoffman (Christina Aguilera, Michael Jackson), and multi-platinum winning mastering engineer Patricia Sullivan (Paul McCartney, U2). Light & Dark

This last round of songs from the new album, 'On Reflection', features the lightest and darkest songs from the album.
TRUST - I wrote this song in about an hour while sitting at a coffee shop in Dallas, napkin style. I performed it that same night at the Universal/Firstcom party I was flown in to play. This is one of my more positive songs.
It was used in the 'Your Voice Your Choice' contest PSA for the World Trust Foundation before its release.
GLASS WALL - the basis for this song was presented to me by Eric Sampson and Dan McMaines, with even most of the lyrics done already. They felt it suited my sound best, and I agreed. The darkest song on the album, Glass Wall was originally intended to close the album with a big-production build of insanity, a bitter-sweet release, and finally finished with an ascent.
DEAD MAN'S SONG - This is another song that came to me very quickly, after the songs for the album had been chosen (and even half-recorded). I wrote this before I heard Glass Wall's lyrics, though it was already almost done. There is an intense number of coincidental parallels between these two songs - i.e. Glass Wall takes place with the narrator looking out the window, where as Dead Man's is looking back in what seems to be the same window.
This last-minute addition is one of my favorites on the album.

The Re-Records

It just occurred to me that I've now released albums in 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2009. Wow!
In homage to my past solo studio projects, we've re-recorded 1 (one) song from each of my previous 3 (three) albums for the new album, 'On Reflection'. You'll notice drastic differences in all of them.
"Won't Be Long" from 'Goodbye You' (2007) has been outfitted with a faster tempo, a live string orchestra, a new bridge, and a much more driving feel.
"DreamingWorld" from 'Equilibrium Theory' (2005) climbed up a half-step for more power, has been re-arranged to include more of the solo melody, and includes my nasty distorted '74 Fender Rhodes which some of you have seen me play live.
"Blue" from 'Slowly Spinning Around' (2003) was re-produced from scratch. This is one of the first songs I EVER wrote!! A very select few of you will remember the original, a mostly acoustic guitar demo with a drum loop and bad vocals. This one has come a loooong way, headed into film score land with off-the-wall effects and a live string orchestra.
