Probably the single most influential ambient record for me is Brian Eno's Discreet Music. I grew up on The Beatles, Genesis & various R & B records of the 60's and 70's so my taste's are varied but nothing moved me quite like that one. Notes and melodies that repeat in sporadic intervals and only audible at certain times has been a compositional style that still intrigues me. It obviously opened the door to many electronic experiences. Biography I come from a fairly musical and artistic family. My Dad is a painter and he played bass and guitar in his younger days and my Mother sang as well. I'm self taught and do not read music. Bass and guitar as well as drums, piano. synth and vocals are my usual instruments and I've been playing them for over 30 years with membership in Nona Hendryx & Zero Cool, China Shop. Richard Hell & Empty House not to mention many jobs as a session bass player with countless groups and musicians in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. In 1992 I decided to quit working in bands and concentrate solely on my own compositions and recording. Ambient music is only a tiny fraction of what I compose as I like to incorporate jazzy R & B, Drum & Bass styles and also heavier drum oriented world music in the CD's I produce. However the ambient genre gives me the most satisfaction of all. Michael Allison - 2004
