The original Deja Voodoo were pioneers in the independent music business in Canada with their label OG records. They produced many notable Canadian punk bands such as the Asexuals and the Dick Van Dykes.
You could say they were inspired by R. Crumb and Steven Gorey, but were really passionate about pop music from both a political AND cultural perspective.

Their style of music was called Sludgeabilly. They are even mentioned in Go Cat Go! the definitive book on the origins of Rockabilly. (look it up)

I'm Canadian and I'm not confused. I saw Deja Voodoo in concert in the 80's and I use to play them on my radio show on CHSR-FM on the UNB campus ... that's in Canada. I guess the new Deja Voodoo were not aware of the old Deja Voodoo.

Deja Voodoo are from New Zealand not Canada. After all they do have a song Today, Tomoorow, Timaru, and timaru is a place in NZ

Well Deja Voodoo from Montreal , i saw play around 1986-1989, don't know about the other iwth the same name. But the Montreal's one sound like the Flintstones family doin psychoblly, was great live, drum without cymbals, and guitar-voice, that was it.
