Founded 6 years ago http://www.myspace.com/directline by three of its current members (Fred Joyal, Welby Medeiros and Eric Hamelin, later joined by G-Jay, followed by L-P Spina), Direct Line’s sound is a high octane mixture of metal, funk and hip-hop. In June 2002, Direct Line went on to win the Emergenza Festival in Canada in front of 1,700 people and 7 judges. The band, despite winning 1st place for the contest, also won prices such as: Best Show, Best Drummer, Best Song, Best band voted by the public and Best band voted by the other band in the final. They then went to Germany to be part of the International final that was held during the Taubertal Open-Air Festival in Rothenburg-Ob-Der-Tauber. Direct Line finished 4th overall out of 27 bands from countries like France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Sweden, etc… Direct Line was voted #1 band in August 2002 by EQ Extreme sport challenge and as a result of that recognition, was the official soundtrack for the EQ Extreme Sport Video which to date sold over 20,000 copies. The followed months of the return from Germany, Direct line played in a lot of shows around Canada and a lot of attention was putted on the band. The single “Adrenaline” was played on a regular basis on Cool FM (Montreal #1 rock radio station) as well and had great feedback from the fans; even dough the band wasn’t signed for any record deal. The attention was becoming even bigger and that’s when Record labels started to have great interest in the band. In the summer of 2003, the band went back in the studio to record some new songs for their debut album ‘Find Your Target’. In June 2003, Direct Line was ask to put one of their song on The 3 Emergenza Best Compilations that regrouped the best bands that ever participated in the Emergenza contest. The compilations were distributed in 10,000 copies in each country: Italy, Germany and Canada. Direct Line was the only band to participate in the 3 compilations. In the beginning of October 2003, Direct Line took part of the Best of Emergenza Canadian Tour that brought together the best upcoming bands from Europe and Canada. Direct Line along with Emil Bulls (Germany) and Zen (Italy) was one of the main attractions of the Tour. The Tour stopped in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. In Spring 2004, Direct Line took part of the Music In Paradise 2004 event, a 10 venues concert series during Spring Break 2004 on the beaches of Florida along acts like Sugar Ray and Deftones.
