  I just heard (more like felt) a performance of his Symphony No. 5. His ability to so accurately transpose situation and sensation into indirect and specific music amazed me at every point throughout. His work is so affecting.

  Shostakovich is the greatest composer of all time, as far as I can tell. He synthesizes the entirety of music history, fills it with passion and strength and virtuosity.

  Thank you dear Paulo! As you know, I am a Shost freak! I heard this chamber symphony last year on Shost's birthday (the arrangement of the 8th quartet) - but I do prefer the original version.

  hard on the ear?!?!! get your ears fixed. this music is complex, beautiful and fun to play.
