Well folks, I’m sorry to say, but the
“Driftwood story” is no different from any other
band’s story. There is no Hollywood magic, and no
MTV overnight success. There are no sordid tales of
greed and deception. It’s just the same old story
of three guys who were in some not-so-great bands,
quit those bands and then got together with a
common goal of writing and playing some good rock
songs.
Singer/guitarist Gerry Lafleur supplies the
basic blueprints for the songs. “Most of the
material is written at home on my acoustic guitar,”
says Lafleur. Then the band, Clint Maslanka on bass
and backing vocals and Jeff Staltare on drums, kick
the songs into high gear. The result is
straight-up, honest rock and roll that makes you
feel good about feeling bad.
Since forming in early 1995, Driftwood has kept
busy with writing, recording and performing. They
have kept a regular schedule performing at all of
their local venues, as well as some more notable
clubs such as the Iron Horse Music Hall in
Northampton, MA , T.T. The Bears in Boston, and the
Century Lounge in Providence, RI.
On the recording end of things, the band has
recorded various demos, and their self-titled,
debut CD has received much airplay on local radio
shows, as well as some national, college radio
play. They have recently recorded a new 6-song EP
entitled Out Of Place, which is now available.
Even though the guys in Driftwood like to think
of themselves as simple folks, they have managed to
embrace the computer world. You can check them out
