The weekend warrior wakes at dawn with fists drawn. He licks his lips, savoring the lingering taste of the morning. He takes his coffee black with one sugar in the raw. For Columbus, Ohio’s Ease the Medic, the war is best fought on weekends and holidays. These four scene veterans loosen their ties and march to battle when the clock strikes 4:59 every Friday. In their respective previous bands, the members of Ease the Medic marched with some of today’s top indie rock mercenaries such as Mae, Appleseed Cast, Brandtson, 764-Hero, Jupiter Sunrise, Homegrown, Hatebreed, and He Is Legend. In this project they have shared the stage with Lynyrd Skynyrd (really), Aberdeen City, The Bank Robbers, and 3 Doors Down. Ease the Medic draws largely from a mid-90s indie rock/post-hardcore tradition: a vast dynamic range which can drop from a roar to a whisper at any given moment, stepping to but never fully crossing the line into math rock, paying homage to hardcore but never giving into hardcore’s restrictions. Shiner, Slint, Shudder to Think, Hum, Sunny Day Real Estate and so many others inspired a generation of indie rockers with the same disregard for formula. Fans of current day acts like Thursday, Cave In, and Coheed & Cambria have also taken kindly to their sound. Ease the Medic showcase their study of this tradition on “Riot on the Gold Coast”, their debut EP on We Want Action Records (Tiara, The Sun, Kopaz) “Riot on the Gold Coast” was mixed and engineered by Jon Fintel at his downtown Columbus studio, Relay Recording, and mastered by Chad Clark at Silver Sonya (Fugazi, Q and Not U). Oh, and we prefer if you pronounce our name with a Cockney accent, it just sounds better that way.
