Who the heck goes to a disco anymore on a Friday? The real action is at “yoga parties” that are springing up all over town. You meet the most interesting people, see Bohemian performances, witness new art, listen to cool sounds, munch on good food, and for as little as $2.00 can enjoy a glass of wine without the nuisance of smoke or bouncers.
Friday night (10/23) we attended a mixer at Reflections Yoga at 250 West 49 Street in NYC’s Theatre district. The spacious studio has lovely parquet floors, a healing room and extra large windows overlooking forty ninth street. We felt like were in a very cool apartment. In tow were Ekayani, the vocalist for Yoga on the Dance Floor and Sanskrit Mantras (Glide recordings), Josefa Vincent, the Executive Coordinator of Yoga on the Dance Floor Tour 2010, Sterling Painton of Sterling Yoga Pittsburgh, yoga students, yoga teachers, an audio engineer,a painter, folks from Brazil, varied locals and a couple of photographers with a evening that was catered by Nia Lee. The dance floor was animated by a dj playing disco with a strong dash of Michael J. The company was friendly and easy to speak with. Tom Glide and I would also like to say that we feel a great sadness at the passing of Michael Jackson. It is just so poignant that some, no matter how celebrated and wealthy still never have all the tools to overcome scars so deep. We lament this killing society that seems to send everyone to the slaughterhouse with the relentless push to drugs and addiction. We hope the vibrations generated on this tour will lift. Here's to our health - all of ours with the understanding that we are human beings and not just cash cows. Michael we wish your soul a peaceful journey to your next destination and continued enlightenment. You shined so brightly.

In our research and outreach into the nationwide yoga community we came across an organization that really touched our hearts.http://www.StreetYoga.org/ motto is "Helping Youth One Breath at a Time" and it's mission "...is working to end homelessness by teaching mindful breathing and compassionate communication to young people at risk and their families, so that they grow stronger, heal from past traumas, and create for themselves a life that is inspired,safe and joyful."
Street yoga offers children and families a free, portable means of caring for themselves that no one can take away. We sent them a copy of Yoga on the Dance Floor and Sanskrit Mantras as a holiday gift and yesterday when we opened our mailbox we saw a "Thank You" card from the Executive Director, Adrienne Boxer. Well we just kinda welled up. Thank you for saying "thank you" and for doing what your doing in Portland, Oregon. We truly think it's a fantastic program and hope it spreads everywhere where youth are at risk.
