  what a great band at any level and genre, what they have done and proved is amazing, lyrics are great and the impact of this band will always be, its too bad that they got complacent and burnt out at least to me, i would really like to see another few albums out of them,screw the tours just but black metal back on the map in a good way especially in this time were all the BM bands seem to fad and blend together into the same.   Emperor is pretty good, but one thing I don't really like about them are their song and album names. I mean their music is complicated, but do they have to have all those long, fancy, ununderstandable words. Maybe it's just me, but I think this makes me not like their music as much as I could if only they had some easy words.

While Emperor will always be a black metal band (symphonic or otherwise) they are still legendary and incredible. One of you was bitching about Cradle Of Filth or something? Emperor and Cradle Of Filth are good friends outside the bands and were loyal touring partners in the nineties. Actually its because none of the other black metal bands accepted COF even when their first 3 albums were excellent pieces of black metal, so in turn they said "fuck this genre" and went all extreme goth cheese on everyone. Emperor dropped the corpsepaint for the obvious anti-trend statement but also because they were more focused about the professionalism and the music than the actual formulas of the black metal genre. More complex than Necrophagist? Eh...I dunno about that one, but the overall message is acceptable since Emperor was always the more technical band within the genre, but aside from the riffs alot of that is keyboard production as well. Their most complex album by far is Prometheus. Who gives a flying fuck if someone listens to Dimmu Borgir or Cradle Of Filth, fuck its music... Hell I listen to DB when I'm not listening to Watain, Antaeus, Keep Of Kalessin, Dark Funeral, Gates Of Enoch, Golgotha and Leviathan...you get the picture. Opeth on par with Emperor? No. Not in the least. Opeth is a good band, but that statement was redundant. And finally, Black Metal is not over in the least. I do not know of these "post black metal" bands you speak of. Mayhem is still flying the flag of black metal, as is Immortal and Emperor still claims to be as well. Most of the Norweigian bands got tired of being a black metal band, so they do different things now, but black metal is still rolling strong, especially in the U.S. Greece, and Sweden. Play nice, boys.
