GOLGO 13: BEHIND THE MUSIC In late 1998, friends Jaime Morris and Mike Morman wanted to start their own punk band, with Jaime on vocals and Mike on drums. They recruited Justin Boggs, an acquaintance from high school, to play with himself. He eventually moved to guitar. Mike's friend Crackhead Gary was going to play bass, even though he never owned one and never played one before in his life. He did watch them practice a few times, however. While getting drunk with Mike and Jaime that New Year's Eve, John Fankell, a friend from school, was offered the position. Jaime initiated him by trying to eat his leg. The band known as Filtheology was now complete. Jaime, who had gone through phases as both a punk and a skin, provided socially and politically motivated lyrics. Justin, who was the only one who could really play his instrument, provided the music. Mike and John made babies together. The band started to develop a characteristic sound. Jaime eventually left/ was forced out because of commitment issues. Friend Matt Perry was asked to take over vocal duties. Thus came the Sentimental Jerks. John and Mike improved their musicianship, and started to input on song writing. The band's sound became more characteristically punk rock. Matt got a girlfriend and quit. John and Mike beat Justin mercilessly until he agreed to become the new singer. And then there were three, and they were proclaimed from on high to be the Bandwagon All Stars. At this time the three amigos began to make contacts in the local Portsmouth music scene. They started playing shows and began developing their skills at playing live. After a few months, however, internal problems developed and the band broke up. After a few eternities, the three stooges decided to declare their eternal love for each other and reformed, as Filtheology. They started to make their mark in the local scene. After a couple months they picked up a new guitarist by the name of $@^#, but they called him Seth Cummins, somehow forgetting the "g". By the vengeful grace of God, Mike was killed in the Great War and became one with the Matrix. Adam Gee of the Schaefers took over drumming. The crew continued on as Filtheology for the next several months. Finally disgusted with that name, someone suggested Golgo 13, and it was good. Unfortunately sometime later, John moved to Hollywood to become Robert Downey Jr's crack dealer after setting fire to Justin's ass. Golgo 13 found Matt Edwards living in Adam's basement and initiated him into the band after he went on a 3 week heroine/Jenga binge.
