"My songs are my journal entries. Sometimes they're simply my observations of the world around me; sometimes they're the conversations that I'm neither brave nor articulate enough to have with others." Ginny Owens has been turning those journal entries and otherwise inarticulate "God had to inspire me to write songs at a very young age," Owens says, "because He knew how long it would take me to learn the craft." With three studio projects, a live record, and an acoustic EP in her name, Ginny continues to love the writing and recording process. She attended Belmont University in Nashville, TN with the intention of becoming a music teacher. However, when opportunities for songwriting were offered to her instead of a teaching job, she eagerly, yet hesitantly accepted. "I was fearful that I wouldn't know how to turn my favorite hobby into a full-time career." The transition was not easy. Although her first record earned her a spot on the Nashville stage of Lillith Fair and following projects would garner enough critical acclaim, radio success, and record sales to keep her in the music game, Ginny remembers those times as some of the most challenging of her career. "I felt rather unprepared for the journey I was on. I am slow to adjust to change, and I was having difficulty speeding up the process of getting used to this new world of airplanes, hotels, and singing the same journal entries over and over again." As she puts the finishing touches on her fourth studio album, Long Way Home, Ginny looks to the future with much anticipation. "The older I get, and the longer I do this, the more I love it. As I'm given more opportunities to create and experiment in the vast realm of music, I fall more in love with its depth, its beauty, and its power."
