“GIRL WITHOUT FEAR is anew wave-tinged alt-pop artist offering music that is both forward-minded and classic-rock education,” according to a spokesman for A&R Select, I hear echoes of music history’s greatness resonating throughout the post-modern consciousness of this creative act.” “Our music is very lyrical and songwriting-driven,” says lead singer/songwriter Demetria, “with danceable beats, modern guitars, lush synths, and melodic keyboards.” The emotional focus of the group’s sound is, she asserts, passion, purity, ecstasy and dreaminess. Demetria confesses that an open mind, a free-flowing creative process and happy mistakes are often part of the crafting of a distinctive, surprising song and “the way to a unique counter melody or innovative hook. I’m always open to change – the song is alive and it can grow from something incredibly unplanned.” Girl Without Fear, signed to Deep Pocket Records, and nabbed electronic single of the year honors at the 2006 L.A. Music Awards for the song “Look Like Angels.” The group has received airplay on KROQ, Indie 103.1 and KCRW, LA’s “big three” radio stations. The tune “Sundown” was tapped for use in the indie film “Chase the Slut”, while "Look Like Angels" nearly grabbed a slot on the “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” soundtrack – in the end the filmmakers went for a song selection taken entirely from classic tracks. Girl Without Fear's unique sound was masterminded by producer/multi-instrumentalist, J.D. Shultz (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fishbone, Trulio Disgracias and Weapon of Choice). Shultz started his own label, Deep Pocket Records as a launching device for Girl Without Fear and his own band Galaxy Grand Prix. Currently, Girl Without Fear is taking a break from playing live to promote tracks from their debut album “Mix Messages” for use in film and television. An independent college radio campaign is fully in motion as well, while Demetria & J.D. are in the studio with other projects, such as Xia Dare, Galaxy Grand Prix, and The Jester.
