    Dates With Xavier Rudd

I've never been to Australia before.  But I think it's about time.  I'm opening a bunch of US dates for Xavier Rudd this September, who happens to be Australian.  Maybe he will take me with him someday if I play my cards right. :)

I'd love to see all of you again at these shows.  I'll be doing them solo-acoustic, I'm guessing the majority of my shows will be with my band after this tour.  So, come out and help me be nice to Xavier.  Australia is calling.

    See you on the road.

    Griffin

Craig Ferguson performance - Wednesday 6/11

I can’t wait for the day that I don’t have to lug my guitar through airport security and onto the airplane. I could solve the problem by getting online and ordering one of those custom built cases that render one’s guitar virtually indestructible, but I like to do things the hard way. Or maybe I just pick very unpractical ways to be frugal. I’ll spend 50 bucks easy on some dinner and drinks, for instance, but I’ll wear the same pair of sneakers for 2 years. Don’t ask me why, I just don’t know.

I was thinking about all of this last week when we taped a live performance of "the guy that says goodbye to you is out of his mind" on Craig Ferguson. I showed up with my guitar case falling apart, hardly being held together with duct tape, and as of now I only own one pair of jeans, so I had those on, as well as some cowboy boots that were given to me and a wrinkled shirt that I wasn’t too worried about getting pressed, but I guess in the big time there is someone there to press your shirt for you. When someone asked me if I needed my shirt pressed when I got there, I figured it must mean I had walked into the big time. Even rock stars get excited about playing Craig Ferguson. I know this because Jeff Trott played baritone guitar with me that night and afterwards he said, "Thanks for inviting me to play with you, I got to pretend I was a rock star for a night." I was thinking to myself, "but you ARE a rock star Jeff."

We had to do 3 or 4 takes due to some technical difficulties, but we finally got it. It’s airing this Wednesday night, the 11th of June.

Sara Watkins also joined us to play some fiddle and sing some harmonies and an instrument that Jeff brought that I have never seen. I got to meet Mr. Ferguson in the hallway after I played and he was getting ready to go film the rest of the show. I don’t think I told him thanks for the really cool toothbrush, the bottle of rum, and the official Craig Ferguson T shirt so I’d like to take the time to say thanks now. Thank you Craig!

If he ever has me back, I think I might take advantage of the make up and prop options and wear a fake beard or something.

    Drive Your Car

I just walked in the coffee shop in Springfield, Oh.  The lady behind the counter said she didn't see me walk in, I was sitting her checking my email, I thought she was going to bust me for not buying anything and using the internet for free so I walked up and ordered a coffee and she asked me how things were going and that she just voted a million times for me on CMT.  That was kind of funny.

I just rolled out of bed and I think I still have pillow marks on my face from where I slept all night, this coffee is good.  Yesterday was my birthday, I've heard 54 is a good year.  So we'll see what it has in store.  That's my new hit song, What 54 has in store.

I've had a pretty chill birthday, played a little golf, hung out with my grandpa and grandma aka gom and gog.  Pet my dog for awhile, watched a movie, ate some Mexican and some cake and ice cream.  Deep thoughts and experiences, and journal entries by Griffin House.  I feel like Jack Handy.  I used to keep journals all the time and write poetry and try to get very philosophical and poetic, I think I know less now that I did back then.  More questions, less answers.

With so much travel and playing shows, it's been hard to feel like there is much time for anything else.  I'd like to get some hobbies this summer.  Try some new stuff.  I walked out on my porch the other day and a line from one of my favorite artists popped in my head, "if you don't run you rust".  That's true.  I had to pay 1200 bucks to get my car fixed because my brakes and rotors rusted as it had been sitting at home doing nothing while I was touring and recording.  You have to drive your car, literally and metaphorically.  That's advice from a good ol' borderline white trash dude from Ohio.  Maybe that could be my motto.

    You gotta drive your car.
