Ground Score started in 2000 because of Phish's hiatus. A bunch of friends got together to learn and play Phish songs. They originally called themselves PhatHead. After a year of jamming and a couple of gigs the band changed bassist and went from two guitars to one. Over the next two and half years the foursome of Mike Katchmark (keys, sounds, vocals), Robert Grunwald (drums, vocals), Tom Lienhardt (guitar, vocals), and Johnathan Dugan (bass, vocals), practiced covers, wrote originals and gigged infrequently. At the end of 2003 the band launched a website and began a more aggresive gig schedule in the Southeastern Michigan area. In the spring of 2004 Ground Score released their first demo, Bootleg. Bootleg has six originals songs on it, highlights include Along the Way and Manual. Ground Score gives this demo away for free at their gigs as well as offer it for free download at www.groundscoreband.com. From July through December of 2004 Ground Score played a fall tour that included several well known venues in MI, including The Blind Pig, The Old Miami, and The Hayloft Liquur Stand. They took four tracks from this recent tour and posted the tracks on their website for free download along with the demo. Currently Ground Score is working on new material for full length CD in 2005. They are also planning even more gigs for the year. Ground Score also recently added a new member, Grahm Depouw. Grahm plays percussion of all type's and will also be filling in on other instruments.
