    Gusterrhoids.

We have five more festival dates this summer before we go back into the studio and finish our album once and for all. This weekend we're playing before Levon Helm in Connecticut and after Peter Bjorn & John and Aimee Mann in Philly. Come out and say hi. Here are the remaining summer dates:

    July 25th in Bridgeport CT
    Gathering of the Vibes
    Tickets

    July 26th in Camden NJ
    XPoNential Music Fest
    Tickets

July 31st in St Louis MO
    Live on the Levee (FREE)

    August 7th in Newport RI
    Newport Yachting Center
    Tickets

    August 8th in Portland ME
    Baystock Music Festival
    Tickets

And thanks for the great response to the Lost & Gone Forever Ten Year Anniversary Tour. You have spoken and we'll be playing the album in order. It will be weird to see Fa Fa batting clean-up but it's the right thing to do. The show at the Beacon Theater in NYC sold out right away so we've added a second night (Saturday, November 28th) and tickets are available now.

Those of you who want to attend the Halloween show in Boston at the Orpheum Theater should note that you can get tickets without a surcharge if you visit the Orpheum Theater Box Office between the hours of 10AM to 5PM Monday through Saturday.

    Much love,

  • Party Like It's 1999

    Gusterrhoids.

It's been ten years since we released Lost & Gone Forever, the album that put us on peoples' radars, helped us graduate from our van to a bus, and taught me to fill my finger cuts with krazy glue.

To celebrate, we're turning the clock back to 1999 and announcing the Lost & Gone Forever Ten Year Anniversary Tour -- 9 very special evenings with Guster. No opener. Two sets, one of which will be the album in its entirety. Yes, even Two Points for Honesty and Rainy Day. I haven't decided if we should play the album in order or in shuffle mode. Any thoughts?

Some facts about the album, mangled together in one chunky paragraph with no flow:

    * Produced by Steve Lillywhite, who was our #1, I Can't Believe He Said Yes, dream producer choice. We played Woodstock '99 right before the album came out, well before we were ready to play a show that big, and mere hours before people set the place on fire. The Barenaked Ladies liked the album and brought us on tour with them, thus doubling the size and Canadian-ness of our following. Karl Denson played sax on Fa Fa, one take, that was it. There were no drum sticks used on the album, only hand drums, and I said so in the liner notes -- Ryan would later make fun of me for including this detail in the album package. We recently found another band's album with the same cover photo of the boy throwing the big rock on the piano (first person to reply with the name of the photographer who took that photo gets two free tickets to the Rochester show). Paige from Phish played theremin on All the Way Up to Heaven. We almost didn't put Happier on the record. What You Wish For and Rainy Day were featured in the movie "Life as a House," which is about cancer. When we toured with Ben Folds in the summer of 2004 he made All the Way Up to Heaven sound so good with his piano chops we never played the song again after that.

Tour dates, all lined up in a row:

    10/28/09 - Charlotte, NC @ Neighborhood Theater...Tix / Facebook Event
    10/29/09 - Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club / Tix / Facebook Event
    10/30/09 - Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club / Tix / Facebook Event
    10/31/09 - Boston, MA @ Orpheum Theater / Tix / Facebook Event
    11/04/09 - Cincinnati, OH @ Madison Theatre / Tix / Facebook Event
11/05/09 - Cleveland, OH @ House of Blues / Tix / Facebook Event
    11/06/09 - Rochester, NY @ Armory / Tix / Facebook Event
    11/07/09 - Burlington, VT @ Higher Ground / Tix / Facebook Event
11/27/09 - New York, NY @ Beacon Theater / Tix / Facebook Event

Some facts about the above tour dates:

This will be the only real Guster headlining tour of 2009. There are no west coast dates, or Texas dates. The only shows near the midwest are two dates in Ohio. The only show in the south is in Charlotte NC. For those of you who find this tour appealing but live in places we're not visiting, we feel your pain. We are visiting some venues of historical significance -- Higher Ground in Vermont, though in a new location now, was where we launched the original Lost & Gone Forever tour. The Orpheum, in Boston, was where we put on an epic Halloween show ten years ago where we wore tuxes and pretended it was New Year's Eve, Y2K. The Beacon in New York, while a relatively new venue for us, harkens back to a time when we played Thanksgiving Weekend in NYC five years in a row. We encourage you all to get your tickets early as these shows will probably sell out... you can get tickets here, on sale Friday July 17th:

We will all have the same clothes, facial hair, and hair cuts we had ten years ago on this tour. Promise. Even Joe.

  • Festivus

    It's festival season, Gusterrhoids!

That means we're playing with Skynyrd and the Doobie Brothers on Sunday in Alabama (no kidding). And playing a free set after Rusted Root in Atlanta this Saturday night (wait, are *we* a nostalgia band too?) ... and playing in Mississippi for the first time in ten years on Friday.

So come on and out and see us. And Lynyrd Skynyrd. By the way, anyone know the over/under on how long "Sweet Home Alabama" runs when it's actually played *in* Alabama? I said twelve minutes, but other people tell me fifteen's a safe bet. I know when we play "Ramona" in the state of Oklahoma we jam that shit out for twenty sometimes.

Other summer festivals are in the cards too, including a new FREE SHOW IN ST LOUIS JULY 31st. See the whole list below.

    6/19/09 – Jackson, MS @ Jubilee Jam Festival...TIX
    6/20/09 – Atlanta, GA @ MidSummer Music Fest...FREE SHOW

They're all weekend festivals, as far as I can tell. Levon Helm of The Band goes on after us in Bridgeport, and we'll be the ones obnoxiously pushing our way through the crowd to get to the front row for his set, stepping on heels and spilling beers if necessary to get there.

Right now we're on the road, however, writing in the road journaltweeting, and playing in the pocket. If you're planning to come see us over the next few weeks, be sure to participate in the clothing drives and check out Reverb's daytime schedules for campus activities.

    Much love,

  • The Fields at Dick's Sporting Goods Park

    Gusterrhoids!

Hi from the road.  It's good to be back, but we're easing into it slowly over here.  One song, played extra fast, last week for the REM tribute gig in New York.  Two songs (one new, one old) this Thursday night for a fundraiser on a docked boat.  By April when the Gusbus is visiting colleges and universities around the country we'll be up to full speed, and even playing "just one more song" if people keep clapping after the last one that's written on the set list.  This summer we'll be playing our instruments in July here and there.

HERE:  Rothbury Festival, Rothbury MI July 2-5.  With Dylan, The Dead, The Cold War Kids, and more...

THERE:  Mile High Festival, The Fields at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, Denver CO July 18-19.  With The Fray, Tool, Widespread Panic, and more...

More to come as far as July goes...

In the meantime, we'd love to see you in April, and if you want to get involved with the environmental side of the Campus Consciousness Tour, that'd be fantastic.  Here's how:

    1.  CLOTHING DRIVES... Most shows on this tour we will be hosting clothing drives along with Reverb and Planet Aid.  What better way to recycle?  Bring out any clothes, shoes, bedding, and even soft toys that you don't use and we'll make sure they find homes where they're needed.  Click HERE to find out when and where this is happening on your campus.

    2.  DAYTIME ACTIVITIES WITH MEMBERS OF GUSTER... Most accessible band ever!  We're working with local student groups to put together daytime activities on campus that may or may not include bocce.  Biodiesel Workshops and Eco-Classroom Takeovers are in the plans, and we're open to your ideas as well.  Send us suggestions.

    3.  SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER... We're looking for a few solid eco-volunteers to help out at each show in exchange for showers of gratitude.  Click HERE to sign up.

    4.  WIN STUFF... In our eco-village there will be many opportunities for you to get free stuff and win glorious prizes, all while taking action for the environment.

Your central headquarters for all of the goings-on from the Reverb side of the tour is through the new CCT website.  Why not visit and stay awhile.

Once again, here are your open-to-the-public college shows:

4/16/09 - Durham, NH @ University of New Hampshire
4/17/09 - Philadelphia, PA @ University of Pennsylvania
4/19/09 - Dayton, OH @ University of Dayton
    4/21/09 - Fayetteville, AR @ University of Arkansas...Free Show
    4/22/09 - Austin, TX @ Stubb's
4/24/09 - Richmond, VA @ University of Richmond
    4/26/09 - Syracuse, NY @ Syracuse University
4/29/09 - Madison, WI @ University of Wisconsin
    4/30/09 - Milwaukee, WI @ Marquette University
    5/02/09 - Reading, PA @ Albright College

That last one there's new.  Reading!
