I saw Howe in San Francisco with my best friend and then two days later in Santa Cruz with some of my closest buddies. At the first show Howe had a three-piece band (w/ drummer and basist). The Santa Cruz show was more casual: there was no stage, and he did without his drummer and he had no piano at hand.
Both shows were excellent, but overall I'd have to say that despite some technical glitches, the Santa Cruz show was the more transcendent. Howe trusts his muse, as so few do, and that... The opening act, Kate Maki, was also quite engaging. It is not often that a show's headliners back the opening act.

Saw Mr Gelb perform in Bristol, Trinity Centre with the choir. It was ace. Then saw him again, by very happy accident, in the Flèche d'Or, Paris. Two great gigs.
