Originally formed as an outlet for band members many emotional traumas, Hraun has developed greatly since it started in the summer of 2004. The band quickly formed an idea of a trilogy of albums called Songs of misery and redemption, charting the journey from personal hell to heaven on earth. With it's first album, I can't believe it's not happines, Hraun addressed issues of seperation, loss of love ones, love lost and underachievement. The song Ástarsaga úr fjöllunum from that album made it to the final five in a concert hosted by the BBC World Service called The next big thing. A country/folk oriented album, ICBINH is very intimate and sad and was well received by Hraun's steadily growing fan base. Hraun's second album, Silent Treatment told the story of the inner battle and "purgatory" of fighting co-dependency, drinking and self loathing and slowly reaching the point where one decides his own destiny. A more rock oriented album than the first one, it received great reviews in Icelandic press and the band played Iceland Airwaves in 2007 to a crowd screaming for more. The final album in the trilogy will be mostly in Hraun's native tongue, Icelandic, as it tells the story of happiness and redemption through communing with nature, your own culture, heritage and family. The songs on the final album draw upon icelandic folk heritage and integrate it with traditional rock elements. Hraun has been described as one of the most eclectic bands to emerge from the Icelandic alternative rock/country scene. The main manifesto of Hraun is to cross the boundries between artistry and entertaining. We do not consider art to be a completely serious thing and neither do we believe that entertainment should be mindless.
