This October, a band you probably have never heard of will have millions of people jamming along to their fiery rock riffs courtesy of their upcoming featured track, “You’re Gonna Say Yeah”, in Activision’s upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour. Get ready for Hushpuppies…
These young rockers from Perpignan, France steeped in the music of their relatives’ record collections: The Kinks, The Who, Small Faces, and Led Zeppelin, then added the best bass player in Bordeaux, and honed their chops in Paris listening to Queens of the Stone Age, Electrelane, Grandaddy, and The Hives among others. Perhaps this explains their impeccable English vocals.
“Silence is Golden”, their North American debut produced by Peter Deimet (dEUS, The Kills) is nothing short of pure musical pop-rock fun, melding the rollicking spirit of your favorite neighborhood garage band with the boundless electric energy of massive arena rock. The Hushpuppies brand of jam welcomes and engages all takers with guitars blazing. To be sure, capturing such glorious rock spirit in the studio takes effort - the band spent 425 hours perfecting this album. It was a titanic task to capture the energy released by the band during their live performances. As you listen, you’ll quickly realize they nailed it. “Silence is Golden” is an extension of Hushpuppies’s best live energy fused with the unlimited possibilities of a recording studio. It remains faithful to their talent and power as well as to the subtleties of their songwriting.
Beyond their soon-to-be smash “You’re Gonna Say Yeah”, Hushpuppies’ also artfully combine melodic caresses with sonic uppercuts, projecting a dynamism all their own on tracks like “Down Down Down”, “Bad Taste and Gold On the Doors”, the ethereal “Love Bandit” , and the darker minor chord radiance of songs like “Broken Matador” and “Harmonium”.
