In the beginning there was one man; Jaani Peuhu. A seasoned rock music professional from a young age, he changed his course after playing in a number of bands in order to do exactly what he wanted, without having to please anybody else except himself. He wrote a number of songs that ended up sounding more like the music he was hearing in his head, and these songs became Nude, the first Iconcrash album. Released in spring 2005, Nude showcased the many talents of Jaani, seeing him as writer, producer, and performer of most of the record. There were several guest musicians, but in general the album was a solo effort.
In order to be able to perform his songs on stage, Jaani put together a live band consisting of his musician friends. This band played dozens of gigs to support the album, and during those gigs these talented musicians made their own interpretations of the songs.
Nowadays Iconcrash is a real band consisting of five people. Besides Jaani, the members are Anu Tukeva ..boards, Jesse Valo on bass, and Oskari Vilmunen on drums. Kuukka have been a part of the live band from the beginning, whereas Tukeva,Vilmunen and Valo are fairly new additions to the group. Even after beginning as a mostly solo artist, Jaani is quite content about the situation;
“Doing it all by myself certainly had its appeal and its benefits, I wont deny that. However, now I felt like it was time to explore the benefits of having a real band, and with the current line-up, there are plenty,” Jaani says. “Now everybodys ideas and input are welcome, and I honestly believe this makes our music better.”
“To me, Iconcrash never felt like Jaani's solo project entirely, even if Nude was pretty much a solo effort,” Kuukka says. “When we have been on the road, and even on our rehearsal place, it has always felt like a real band. But as far as studio work goes, there has been a major change, as its no longer just Jaani doing everything.”
Iconcrash are currently working on their second album. Jaani says the influences for the album are such luminaries as Killing Joke (eighties stuff), Depeche Mode (Songs of Faith And Devotion), Sneaker Pimps, Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan, Bj?rk and King Diamond. If that doesn't sound like a recipe for an interesting record, we don't know what does.
