Current Projects The Outer Rim The Outer Rim is a band that defies explanation. The band has elements of free music, rock, jazz, funk and R&B while being focused on creating new soundscapes with the use of effects and other instruments. The Outer Rim includes Neil Stalnaker on trumpet and effects, Norihiko Hibino on soprano sax and synthesizer, Hakuie Kim on Piano, Rhodes and effects, Masanori Amakura on Drums and effects, and Hiro Kubota on Guitar. Neil Stalnaker’s East/West Unit The East/West Unit is an acoustic jazz group that plays mostly original material. Everybody in the band composes so there is a wide variety of style in the songs. The goal of the band is to create a very real or honest kind of music. The East/West Unit is Neil Stalnaker on trumpet, Hakuei Kim on Piano, and Masahi Tomikawa on drums.
