Now living in New York City, Dy'Kon Music artist Jillian Walker is learning to balance her singing and acting careers: "I would say the themes of my life right now are experimentation, frustration, and faith...building lots of faith." While learning lines for her leading role in an upcoming short film, auditioning for other projects, and writing her first play, Jillian is also writing and recording her first EP album to be released through Dy'Kon in early 2009. "I don't know how NOT to do more than one thing at a time. I went to Michigan. Kidding. But not...That's what I know how to do." Although she may be multitasking, it is evident that Jillian is a bit more sure who she is artistically and well, just in general. "My last year living in Ann Arbor was a huge turning point. When I made the decision to move to NYC and pursue my music, I knew I needed to prepare myself. So I read and prayed and studied a lot. And now I'm facing the challenges of finding my identity as an independent young woman living in New York, but it's exciting." So far, it seems to be paying off. The debut album blends the current trends in R&B/Pop music with an organic and classic soulful sounding undertone. Her voice flows seemlessly on the tracks full of new-found confidence and optimism. "I've been working really hard to make sure this first EP will be something I can be proud to listen to. Most important to me is making sure I'm comfortable enough with myself to perform the way I should. I want to shut it down everytime. That's what it's all about." Smiling coyly, she seems to be joking a bit. Or perhaps the smile is because she knows what's coming as long as she keeps exploring and finding herself. Whatever the case, her debut album promises to be something to witness, especially for those who enjoy watching the early formation of a star. -KEH
