Known as "the little woman with the big voice," Jodie Manross has become one of Knoxville, TN's top singer/songwriters, performing regularly in corners of coffeehouses and the center stage of clubs. Besides developing a growing fan base in Knoxville, she has also been received warmly in cities such as Chattanooga, TN, Atlanta, GA and Asheville, NC. This petite 25-year-old, 5'2" woman possesses a powerful voice much larger than her size and surprises many with her dynamic vocalizations and soulful delivery of songs. Border’s Books and Music have called Jodie’s band, comprised of acoustic guitar, bass and percussion, "a smooth blend of pop and soothing folk with a voice that's simply incredible." Their original music ranges from upbeat rock and blues to thoughtful folk with strong, well-crafted lyrics. Keilany composes on acoustic guitar and oud, an 11-stringed Middle Eastern instrument, bringing a unique element to the band. Underlying the guitar and vocals the rhythm section, made up of Nathan Barrett’s Congasaurus Rex (including bass drum, cymbals and an array of hand drums) and André Hayter’s 5-string bass, provides a driving, soulful rhythm to complement the band’s powerful sound. Together they create a combination of 70's soul with modern folk and pop. Along with their original music, Manross’ band performs unique versions of covers ranging from Snoop Doggy Dog to Talking Heads. Other influences include Hendrix, Michael Hedges, Ani DiFranco and Tuck and Patti. Manross and her band released Still, their debut CD of original music in November of 1999, and are building a regional following. With a dynamic stage show and music that embodies grace and power, Jodie Manross is not to be missed.
