NEW SINGLE TO RADIO IN APRIL

Joe Nichols recently launched his first Australian tour. He stayed for a full 10-day run, which prevented him from attending this years Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. "So," he sent a message to U.S. programmers, "might I offer a big ‘g’day, mate’ from Down Under?" The first single from his next album ships to those same broadcasters in April.

  • JOE NICHOLS TOURS AUSTRALIA - Artist Also Releases New Single In April

Nashville, TN March 2, 2009 --  Universal Records South recording artist Joe Nichols kicked off a multi- city tour of Australia February 27 at the Empire Theatre in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia and will spend a total of 10 days touring the country.  These dates mark the artist's first ever tour of Australia, and has affectionately been dubbed the Size Matters Tour.

"I've always been told that Australians love country music, and this is a great opportunity for me to present my music in a live setting to the country music fans there," Nichols said. "Of course because of the timing of the tour, I am unable to attend the Country Radio Seminar this year, and will miss seeing all of my friends in radio.  So might I offer a big g'day mate from down under?"

In addition to Toowoomba, Nichols will also appear in Sydney and at the popular CMC Rocks the Snowys in Thredbo.

Shortly after his return to the States, Universal Records South will release the debut single from Nichols' fourth studio CD.  The highly anticipated first single will hit radio in April, and will be complemented by a tour of the US.  Please check joenichols.com for updates.

  • Joe Nichols Reduced to Syphoning Gas!

Joe Nichols Reduced to Syphoning Gas! While Texas area oil refineries recover from the devastation of Hurricane Ike, gas supplies to Nashville all but dried up last Friday. Caught in the crunch, Joe Nichols was forced to do something a bit unpleasant-- syphon gas. As Joe tells it, he was scheduled in the studio to record some new material for his next album, but the gas tank on his "good car" was on empty. Throughout Nashville the story was the same -- no gas to be had. So what's a resourceful guy to do but syphon some out of his beloved farm truck, a 1975 orange Chevy Silverado, with no windows, large rust holes in the sides and no air conditioning. But the truck, aptly named 'Rusty,' had some gas. "Usually I wouldn't mind driving my old truck into town," Nichols explained. "But with the gas shortage in Nashville and all the Triple A people tied up rescuing stranded motorists with no gas, I couldn't risk running out of gas AND the sides of the truck falling off on the interstate. She's called 'Rusty' for a reason-- the rust is about all that's holding her together!" Nichols made it to the studio, and performed last night on the opry! www.joenichols.com

  • Joe Nichols brings his traditional sound to the Fulton County Fair

    By BRIAN DUGGER
    BLADE STAFF WRITER

"Real Things" is possibly the best body of work Joe Nichols has ever produced.

Released last year, Nichols' fourth major album was universally praised by critics. It was a classic, neo-traditional Nichols record put together by two of the best producers in Nashville, Brent Rowan and Mark Wright.

The only problem is that critical acclaim and commercial success aren't necessarily intertwined, and "Real Things" failed to score with his fans. After going platinum with "Man with a Memory" and gold with "III," Nichols hasn't come close to achieving that type of success with "Real Things." While he piled up seven Top-10 singles with his previous albums, the two singles off his fourth album barely cracked the Top 20, and Nichols admits the man to blame is the one staring back at him each morning when he looks in the mirror.

"There are a million different places I could point a finger, but ultimately, the blame lies with me," he says. "With the personal issues I had last year and my lack of focus I had before that, it's all the direct result."

Those personal issues involved a battle with substance abuse and drinking that got progressively worse after the death of his father, Mike, in 2002. His struggles landed him in rehab in October. A person battling addiction is never cured, but Nichols believes he's headed in the right direction after his stay in rehab.

"It's gotten me more focused. I'm more focused than I ever have been, and that's what was needed."

That focus is evident when he talks about his upcoming one-year wedding anniversary. He and his wife, Heather, were married on Sept. 9 in Savannah, Ga.
"We have a quiet getaway planned, but it won't even last a day since we have a lot of work we have to get back to."

The short trip is no indication of his commitment to his marriage. Heather is his best friend, and he credits her with helping him through his issues. The pair have known each other since they were 18 but only began dating seriously about two years ago.

"She's a trouper. I'm a lucky man that she's still here. When you go through a lot of stuff like I did, it's easy for a person not to want to be strong. She was my strength when I wanted to be weak. She propped me up and gave me a kick and told me, ‘Now you've got to go do this.' And I've got to give her thanks for that."

Nichols' fans should look for Heather's influence on his next album, whether it's a love song to her or just him writing about feelings she drew out of him.

"She's always involved in what I do, whether she knows it or not," Nichols says.
In between dates on the road, Nichols has been pouring himself into his upcoming album, hoping to recapture that elusive commercial success he achieved when he hit country radio with "The Impossible" back in 2002. Nichols followed up that top-five hit with "Brokenheartsville," which became his first No. 1 single in March, 2003. Several other hits followed, including "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off," which was Nichols' second chart-topper.

Although "Another Side of You" and "It Ain't No Crime" didn't become big hits when he released them off his last album, he thinks he's on the right track. A new single should be on radio in late September or early October.

"I don't think we need to change much on the product side. I feel it was a great album. So many things contributed to the lack of commercial success, but you can't look at the music and say it wasn't commercially appealing. I think if I sing good country songs, everything will be OK."

Fans attending his show in Wauseon Monday night should expect to hear some new music. He uses his concert crowds as a barometer for how a song might do on radio. More than anything, fans should expect to hear that traditional Nichols sound.

"It's a country show, with the exception of about two minutes when I throw in a little goofiness. I want to make sure people get their money's worth and they leave happy and want to come back to the next show."

Joe Nichols and Jake Owen will be in concert at the Fulton County Fair in Wauseon on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Track seats are $22, and grandstand seats are $18 and $20. Tickets can be purchased online at www.fultoncountyfair.com at the fairgrounds, or by phone at 419-335-7469.

  • CMA Celebrity Close Up Series Returns to GAC with Superstar Lineup

CMA Celebrity Close Up Series Returns to GAC with Superstar Lineup Lorianne Crook stirs up laughter with humorous tales from country music stars Bucky Covington, Sara Evans, Joe Nichols, Jake Owen, Taylor Swift, Randy Travis and Gretchen Wilson NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (July 14, 2008) –CMA Celebrity Close Up Series presented by Great American Country (GAC) and hosted by Lorianne Crook, returns to GAC this summer with a super star lineup of artists. The first of the two star-filled episodes premieres July 19 (9 pm ET) featuring Taylor Swift, Randy Travis and Gretchen Wilson. The second episode, which includes exclusive interviews with Bucky Covington, Sara Evans, Joe Nichols and Jake Owen, premieres July 26 (9 pm ET). Gretchen Wilson starts the uproar among the fans when Crook obliges the audience by questioning Wilson about her relationship status, graduation, future album release and more. Wilson makes sure to remind her fans despite all her career success, “I am still a redneck woman! That’s what being redneck means being true about your self.” Randy Travis also stays true to his country roots by sharing his secret aspiration to be a gunslinger and his hilarious childhood antics while pursuing the dream. But it’s not all fun and games as seen during a touching moment when he admits, “My wife made me want to be a better person.” Taylor Swift’s time before the audience exemplified exactly why she is one of the favorite acts in country music today. Thinking on her feet, she treated the fans to a surprise a cappella performance of “Our Song” when Crook had microphone troubles. But Swift, who believes in the spirit of CMA Music Festival being all about the fans, didn’t let the surprises stop there! Tune in to see the surprise she gave one special fan. When Crook asks about Swift’s being a role model to young fans, Swift says she knows she is not perfect but, “I try to maintain confidence and stay true to who I am because I don’t really want to change it.” In the second episode of CMA Celebrity Close Up Series (July 26 – 9 pm ET) Sara Evans discusses her relationship with then fiancée now husband Jay Barker, her family and music career. Evans, whose work days have been filled with being a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross and working on a new album, gives insight to fans on what she feels is the hardest part of being successful stating, “You sacrifice a lot but you get a lot. I have finally reached a point in my life where I can’t complain.” Crook receives no complaints from the audience when she welcomes Joe Nichols onto the stage. The time spent with Nichols is filled with laughter as he discusses his marriage, favorite cartoons, underwear secrets and more. There are also jokes galore including Joe’s humorous response to fan reactions to his athletic body. “It’s all surgery, why work for it when you can pay for it.” Bucky Covington and Jake Owen prove to be true charmers when the two join Crook at the same time for a double dose of fun. The two rising artists said they felt blessed with the opportunity to even be asked to participate in the CMA Celebrity Close Up Series. “I was thinking how cool it is to be sitting on the Ryman Stage,” Owen says, “I wish y’all could see what it looks like looking your way.” CMA Celebrity Close Up Series presented by GAC was recorded before a live audience at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium during the 2008 CMA Music Festival.
