It all began in Swedish suburbia. A nicely ordered, yet curiously vacant Stockholm suburb - home to suicidal fifteen year olds on out of control mopeds, an endless procession of escalators to nowhere, plastic yucca palm trees and the breeding ground of suburban hell. It was in these surroundings the unusually fresh and very unordinary collective now known as Kamera, was formed in spring of the year 2000. After all, there's nothing like living a nightmare to kick-start the desire and determination to break the cycle, and thus began the start of a beautiful thing...

Longing for something different and knowing there was a whole lot more, the boys began creating their own style of music as an antidote to the relentless monotony of conformist standardisation and standard-issue provincial attitudes that are the marks of suburban life. In an environment in which it was considered somewhat daring and rather risqué to wear your shirt outside your jeans, they created music that was unafraid of exuberant passion and energy, or to say it like it is.

Driven by the desire to create something unique and rise above the restlessness, they rehearsed into the small hours of each new day, experimenting with new material to define their characteristic synth-pop aesthetic, but it was on stage that Kamera really found their groove. With the mood electric, the spirit of the live audience has become the barometer by which the groove is measured.

Like bands like The Cure, New Order and Depeche Mode before them, Kamera blend the electronic with the organic to create their own brand of musical magic for the naughties. Whether playing to a crowd of 35 000 in Stockholm as support band for Robbie Williams, or to 2 people in a dusty small town in the middle of nowhere, Kamera always remain vital, using an original fusion of warm melodies, intrinsic electro-synth harmonies, soaring vocals and fresh lyrics to deliver the aesthetically pleasing beat that is their definitive sound.

Working closely with long-time friend and producer Björn Öqvist, resulted in Kamera's self-titled debut album released in October 2003 to widespread acclaim, (and the adulation of an army of adoring fans), this first studio album put the band on a fast track to success. The singles "At work", "Fragile", "Suburban Boy" and "Vertigo" were all on high-rotation on radio and video channels during 2003 and 2004.

But there is always a backside to fame. After two years of intense touring, confrontation, broken plans, heavy partying and all of the things that happen to bands that suddenly get all the attention, the guitarist and keyboardist decided to leave the band.

Co-founders of Kamera, Joakim Hjelm (svelte vocals and known to his pals as Jocke) and Carl DeLorean (drummer extraordinaire) together with trustworthy bass-player Kit Balance, found themselves in a dilemma. But what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Recruitment of Linus "Lotus" Wiklund as guitarist and Nico as keyboardist gave the band an energy boost and in the same process a new record deal was signed with Sound Pollution! And all of this led to great results straight away. Gigs went, if possible, better than ever and the recording of a new album was started. So after all, the history of Kamera has just started...
