  The person who referred to Joe Loop below - a double album of stuff recorded at his club is now available, check in amazon (this is not spam, it isn't a great album, but it is worth listening to if you want to hear a few good songs, and get a better understanding of how her voice developed.)

  My uncle Joe Loop co-owned a little cafe' in Colorado in the early 60's called the Attic, and that's how he met Karen. Aparently she was an amazing human being as well as musician, but I never got to meet her...my uncle and my dad turned me on to Karen when I was little, but I didn't really "get" her until I got older. I love the way Dylan described her as having a "voice like Billie Holiday and a guitar like Jimmy Reed," but that doesn't quite do her justice, I'm afraid. Her vocal style wa... More... I love the way Dylan described her as having a "voice like Billie Holiday and a guitar like Jimmy Reed," but that doesn't quite do her justice, I'm afraid. Her vocal style was haunting and seductive all at the same time - just listen sometime, she keeps you hanging on her every word with the timing and rhythm she gives her vocal melodies. She, right up there with Fred Neil, and Tim Hardin are in my opinion the most talented artists during folk's heyday in the early 60's.
