Karnivool began gigging as a 4 piece outfit in 1998, releasing their self-titled CD in May 2000. They then changed their line up in August that year recruiting Ray & Jon. After approxmately 20 gigs up their sleeve as the new Karnivool, the band is now gigging regularly alongside other top Perth bands such as Heavy Weight Champ, Caddis, The Dirty Whittler. Karnivool are now in the process of preparing themselves for an eastern states tour and have just completed recording for their new EP "Persona". Karnivool have gained national publicity through regular airplay on "triple J's 3 hours of power" since October 2000 and as a result, they were recently named as a "buzz band" of the month by JJJ DJ Costa Zouliou in Utopia Music Magazine. Along side this, Karnivool have also gained national recognition, on Channel V, and popular music programme "Recovery" on the ABC network. The band launched their debut EP to a crowd of over 200 people at the amplifier in early 2000, which received airplay on overseas radio, namely Switzerland and Spain. The band has also taken part in the "Aqua Youth Day" festival as a part of the South Perth Fiesta alonside Eskimo Joe where thousands turned up on the South Perth foreshore, as well as Full Scale Deflection's CD Launch in November 2000, the most successful original gig of the year, at the Grosvenor back room where a capacity crowd of 700 people attended. In support of the JJJ airplay and new disc, Karnivool commence a 3 week eastren states tour on February the 7th.
