Aug 03, 03:42 PMDearest friends
I'm writing you from my tiny office nook in Chiswick, London, where Keir and I are living for the next couple of months. It's me, the morning sun, an inappropriately bulky digital piano, my laptop, a coffee, and the view over Chiswick House (where, incidentally, the clip for the Beatles song 'Paperback Writer' was filmed).
In the last month I've been to LA, New York, Barcelona, back to Sydney, Bruges, and now London. My carbon footprint is hell outta control, as is my eternal jetlag. It has been stupid and overwhelming and electrifying. The one constant has been playing gigs to lovely music-loving people (and beer, of course).
Now we're settling in to do some proper songwriting and the occasional gig in the UK. If you're in London or you know someone who might be inclined to come and see us play, all the details are here http://feeds.artistdata.com/a-AR-9215GH1PATARNO3I/shows
We have one particularly awesome gig coming up - opening for the Alabama 3 in Regent's Park. The Alabama 3 do the theme song for the Sopranos - you know, 'woke up this morning, got yourself a gun' etc etc. If you are a fan of the show like I am, you will know how f&*king cool this is.
In Sydney last week, besides performing at the 2009 Helpmann Awards at the Sydney Opera House (you can see the footage here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQwlU7Tgsho), we shot the music video for Curiouser's 3rd single, 'Last Day on Earth'. The director, the award-winning Mark Alston, has done a gorgeous job. Here's a photo from behind the scenes:
Oh, and yes, I have red hair now.
'The Last Day on Earth', due to its' use for the promotion on a particularly popular tv show, is currently the number 1 Australian single on the charts. It's all been a bit unexpectedly nuts. What can I say? Everybody. Needs. Good. Neighbours.
What else? I'm making some music with the incredible Richard Thomas (writer of Jerry Springer the Opera), planning holidays to Spain, planning tours of the US, Canada and Australia for later this year, stocking up the creative well as best I can. If you're interested in the daily inanities of my life, you can always follow me on twitter - twitter.com/kmillerheidke
If you haven't quite made it to twitter yet, there's always facebook.com/katemillerheidke
Well, that's about enough for now. Thank you so much for your continued support. I'll be in touch.
Warm wishes,
Kate

Jun 05, 01:05 AMCan't Shake It nominated for APRA Song of the Year!BRISBANE singer Kate Miller-Heidke might want to think about buying a lottery ticket before the end of this week.
May is proving to be a month of good fortune for her, particularly as a songwriter.
On May 1, Miller-Heidke, 27, won the grand prize at the International Songwriting Competition, beating 15,500 entrants from around the world to the top prize with her song Caught in the Crowd.
Yesterday another of her songs, Can't Shake It, was nominated for the APRA Song of the Year award.
The awards, to be held in Melbourne on June 23, are second only to the ARIAs on the Australian music industry calendar and, under the auspices of the Australasian Performing Right Association, recognise the talents of local songwriters.
Miller-Heidke's song is up against titles by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson, Empire of the Sun, and The Living End for the top trophy.
"Being next to people like Nick Cave is an honour," Miller-Heidke said in Sydney yesterday. "But I hope I don't win.
"That would just be so embarrassing ... not in a category with Nick Cave. That's ridiculous."
Both of Miller-Heidke's songs are from her second album, Curioser, and were co-written with husband Keir Nuttall.
Ironically, they will not be at the APRA prize-giving ceremony next month.
Instead, the couple will use the $34,000 prize from the international competition to fund a trip to the US and Europe with their band.

Aug 25 2008, 09:26 PMStudio Blog 2
Dear Friends,
How are you? It's been a while. For the last two months, we have been utterly immersed in the recording of my second album. It has been draining, exhilarating, emotional, drunken, sobering, scary, magical and ridiculous.
We leave L.A the day after tomorrow, and I have mixed feelings. Though I'm looking forward to getting back to Oz and having a beer with friends in our little courtyard, I'm sad to be leaving. After two months in Pasadena, it feels almost like home.
LA is such a vibrant town. It's both brilliant and insane. The city has coloured the recording, and filled it with a sense of playfulness and expansion. I can't wait for you guys to hear it. It's very different to 'Little Eve'. The songs we've recorded are:
Supergirl
For the Hundredth Time
The Last Day On Earth
I Like You Better When You're Not Around
Caught in the Crowd
God's Gift to Women
The One Thing I Know
No Truck
Our Song
Politics In Space
Motorscooter
Can't Shake It
The End Of School
Still don't have an order yet, and will be culling this list down to 11-12 songs.
Mickey Petralia, our producer, is shockingly talented. We couldn't have picked anyone more perfect. Lately we've been working 3pm - 5am every day. We're all exhausted and a bit delirious. Two more mixes to go!
The lovely Sallie Campbell (ex-KMH violinist/singer) came to visit for a few days last week and laid down some rockin violin. It was great to hang out with her.
Here is the latest installment of my video blog. It's short and funny and a must for fans of Ben McCarthy!
I will be in touch again soon. Many thanks and warm wishes,
Kate
