Severin the Wanderer:
"Let us now praise Lena Karlsson. I know of no voice in pop more quirkily expressive. It's taken me long enough to give Lena her propers, considering Komeda's rested firmly in my Top 12 for some time. The fact that her wonderful voice is in service to an exceptionally odd band with a name extracted from a Polish jazz composer ought to explain some of her unique charm, but I ain't called Dr. Obtuse for nothing. I always thought I preferred breathy, wispy-voiced mermaids like Nico, Vashti Bunyan, Amy Millan or Beth Gibbons. But it appears I don't know myself nearly as well as I thought. I'm much more enamoured of the sweet, strong or eccentric voices right now: Jenny Toomey, Jenny Lewis, Nina Kinert, Ane Brun or the incomparable Lena. This is r-a-n-g-e, pilgrims. This is variety. This is what music is supposed to do: startle us, thrill us, sometimes disturb our equilibrium and make us feel alive. Let us now praise Lena Karlsson."
