His musical background is rooted in his family's rich musical heritage which includes Roame Lowry,(Maze feat. Frankie Beverly) and the late John Whitehead, songwriter-producer for the The Sound of Philadelphia and the international hit "Aint No Stopping Us Now." Musical Influences In the late 1980's, Lion loved the music of an artist named Shannon, because to him she combined songs and vocals that he could feel, and music that was so "bangin'" that you had to move. So the first few songs that he ever wrote were in the same styles as her songs, like her famous "Let the Music Play," and "Give Me Tonight." It was also at that time that Lion bought a 909 drum machine and attempted to do beats the way that he had heard on the records he had previously studied. Songs that were produced by Mantronix, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Ligett & Barbosa, These were his production influences when he started. Lion's other musical influences include, Maurice White, Nile Rogers, Roy Ayers, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Sly Stone, The Isley Bros., Quincy Jones, Dr. Dre. With his own album, "Full Circle" Lion went a little further with the development lyrically and musically of each song. He took his time with it. "…It really flowed, making the record really flowed effortlessly from a creative standpoint. Lion's experience and talent runs deep. He manned the "board" as producer, arranger and mixer. He also performed all of the music (with the exception of live guitar), and contributed lyrics and vocals to the record. The next phase was to translate all of these songs into live performances, which has been done with much success. The format of Lion's live show is that he and the vocalists featured on the album perform as a group, with Lion as narrator, vocalist and one-man band. "Overall, there is a message in the music, I made sure it was bangin' so the message would be heard."
